Llanddowror today
Llanddowror today has the very active Llanddowror Village Association, which arranges events throughout the year including the annual firework display.
The historic Picton House staging post has become Picton House Hotel which provides bed and breakfast accommodation, and also welcomes non-residents to its licensed bar. There is plenty of other bed and breakfast accommodation around – accessed via AirBnB or otherwise, to cater for visitors to the area.
After the bypass was opened in 2014 the road from Llanddowror to Red Roses became a lot quieter, and so this is now often used by cyclists and joggers, both as individuals and as part of clubs. Each year, usually in early May, the Carten 100 goes through here – it started with four riders in 2004 and now over 2500 riders cycle from Cardiff to Tenby on one day. As you can imagine, that is a day to either watch the event, or stay off the road!
There are no shops in Llanddowror, but there is the public toilet block that is well used. Adjacent to it is the Meeting Room that is owned by Llanddowror and Llanmiloe Council, which can be hired for events or classes – contact the Clerk, Mrs Vicky Mitchell for details.
Llanddowror is on a flood plan, and so all residents are encouraged to register with Natural Resources Wales to receive any flood warnings for the river Hydfron at Llanddowror, and upstream. Natural Resources Wales will activate a local flood warning trigger from a rain gauge when a certain level is reached. Those signed up for the Floodline warning scheme will receive a warning. There is a village Whatsapp group that helps keep people in touch and up-to-date with any issues - contact any Llanddowror Councillor or the Clerk for more information.
Llanddowror and Llanmiloe Community Council work closely with Llanddowror Village Association, so you can contact the Clerk Mrs. Vicky Mitchell on [email protected] if you wish to be put in contact with them.
